Ireland Curtails 89 GWh of Solar in First Half of 2025

Ireland’s grid operators curtailed nearly 89 GWh of solar power in the first half of 2025, highlighting the scale of Ireland solar curtailment 2025 and how fast capacity has expanded, according to new data from Montel Energy. That’s a sevenfold increase compared with 2022, showing how rapidly solar capacity has expanded across the country.

Curtailment means energy was generated but couldn’t be used due to grid limits or oversupply. Analysts warn that as more households and businesses install solar, system-level challenges will increase unless grid capacity is upgraded.

For Irish homeowners, the takeaway is clear: solar is growing fast, but reviews show the most reliable installers also provide battery storage and help navigate SEAI grants — reducing the risk of wasted generation.
